What is FAPE?

  Free and Appropriate Public Education
  • FAPE stands for: “Free and Appropriate Public Education”

  • All students in the US, including students with special health care needs and students with disabilities, have the right to FAPE

  • FAPE is guaranteed by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) [Link to “Federal Law “IDEA” slide]

  • Some students receive special education services in order to be provided with FAPE
