The Individual with Disabilities Education Act
- Ensures that children with disabilities are provided with a FAPE (Free and Appropriate Public Education)
- Applies to children, birth through 21 years old
- Provides for IEP’s
- Calls for education in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)
- Initially enacted into law in 1975 (as PL 94-142) and reauthorized in 1997 and 2004.
