I heard that pampering a child too much causes asthma – is this true?

Keren Chansky Suberri, Ph.D., ABPP
In the early 1900’s many psychologists and psychiatrists believed that poor parenting, especially: overprotective parenting, caused asthma.

We now know that this is not true. Sadly, many parents of children with asthma were made to feel guilty about their children’s asthma.

We now know that the cause of asthma is genetic and there is a biologic basis to this disease.

Parenting styles can neither cause nor prevent asthma.
